Full-Scale Experimental Study of Shear and Flexural Behavior of 16-m Retired Reinforced Concrete T-Beams

Most of the existing engineering structures were built in last century and have been service for decades. However, environmental degradation may lead to a reduction structural performance life. The mechanical property data full-scale structures, such as bridges, are essential health monitoring. For this purpose, five (half) reinforced concrete (RC) T-beams removed from retired 31-year-old bridge subjected destructive testing. Two loading points employed, flexural shear capacities studied. results showed that all beams held high load (exceeding 1400 kN). two test exhibited ductility, three failed. In addition, cracks reopened when exceeded 200 kN, while it was 300 kN beams. load-carrying capacity experimental values compared with ones calculated according Chinese code JTG-3362-2018; shown still maintained degree safety margins despite initial defects. expected provide reference assessment in-service RC bridges.
